Yoenis Cespedess reportedly returning to New York. The free-agent outfielder agreed to a three-year deal with the Mets late Friday evening, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
MLB Network's Ken Rosenthal reported that the contract's value was in the neighborhood of $75 million and includes an opt-out after the first year, allowing Cespedes to re-enter free agency after the 2016 season. The Mets have not confirmed the deal.
Cespedes was said to be mulling a long-term offer from the Nationals, and late Friday evening reports surfaced that a third team had entered the mix. The Orioles also previously made an offer before re-signinghris Davisn a seven-year, $161 million deal.
Cespedes was among the the top remaining free agents in a year that featured a rich crop of available outfield talent.lex Gordon,ustin Upton,ason Heywardndexter Fowlerlso hit the open market this winter. Of that group, only Fowler remains unsigned.
