歌羅西書一章十五節至十八節，描述基督的三方面：（1）基督與 神的關係。（2）基督
與受造物的關係。（3）基督與教會的關係。歌羅西書一章十五節的「首生」，不但是指
基督在時間上存在於一切受造物之先，同時也指基督在等級上，祂的權能是在一切受造物
之上。歌羅西書一章十五節若譯成「一切受造之物的首生者」，the firstborn of all
creation，是大有問題的，原因有五：（1）整段經文與整卷書信的重點在於顯示基督在
萬有之上的卓越地位。（2）在這段經文中，有關基督的其他描述，都清楚顯示基督在一
切受造之物以先，並凌駕其上，例如一章十六節說到基督是萬有的創造者、萬有是藉他也
為他而造，一章十七節說到基督在萬有以先、是萬有的支撐者，等等。（3）如果「首生
者」創造了「萬有」，「首生者」便不可能是受造之物的一部分，因為受造之物不可能創
造自己。（4）「首生者」接受所有天使的敬拜（希伯來書一章六節），但受造之物是不
應該接受敬拜的（出埃及記二十章第四節至第五節）。（5）「首生的」希臘文是
prototokos，假使基督是「受造之物的首生者－首先被造的」，希臘文就應該是
protoktisis才對。
