「所以，你們要醒寤，
因為你們不知道：
在那一天你們的主人要來。
這一點你們要明白：
如果家主知道，盜賊幾更天要來，
他必要醒寤，不讓自己的房屋被挖穿。
為此，你們應該準備，
因為你們不料想的時辰，人子就來了。」
「究竟誰是那忠信聰明的僕人，
主人派他管理自己的家僕，按時配給他們食糧呢？
主人來時，看見他如此行事，那僕人纔是有福的。
我實在告訴你們：主人必要委派他管理自己的一切財產。
如果那惡僕心裡說：我主人必要遲延，
於是開始拷打自己的同伴，甚或同醉漢一起吃喝。
正在他不期待的日子，和想不到的時刻，那僕人的主人要來到，
剷除他，使他與假善人遭受同樣的命運；在那裡要有哀號和切齒。」
Gospel MT 24:42-51
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
Be sure of this:
if the master of the house
had known the hour of night when the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake
and not let his house be broken into.
So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.
"Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant,
whom the master has put in charge of his household
to distribute to them their food at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so.
Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property.
But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is long delayed,'
and begins to beat his fellow servants,
and eat and drink with drunkards,
the servant's master will come on an unexpected day
and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely
and assign him a place with the hypocrites,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth."

（そのとき、イエスは弟子たちに言われた。）
「目を覚ましていなさい。
いつの日、
自分の主が帰って来られるのか、
あなたがたには分からないからである。
このことをわきまえていなさい。
家の主人は、
泥棒が夜のいつごろやって来るかを知っていたら、
目を覚ましていて、
みすみす自分の家に押し入らせはしないだろう。
だから、あなたがたも用意していなさい。
人の子は思いがけない時に来るからである。
主人がその家の使用人たちの上に立てて、
時間どおり彼らに食事を与えさせることにした忠実で賢い僕は、
いったいだれであろうか。
主人が帰って来たとき、
言われたとおりにしているのを見られる僕は幸いである。
はっきり言っておくが、主人は彼に全財産を管理させるにちがいない。
しかし、それが悪い僕で、主人は遅いと思い、
仲間を殴り始め、酒飲みどもと一緒に食べたり飲んだりしているとする。
もしそうなら、
その僕の主人は予想しない日、思いがけない時に帰って来て、
彼を厳しく罰し、偽善者たちと同じ目に遭わせる。
そこで泣きわめいて歯ぎしりするだろう。」
