【那時候】有成千累萬的群眾集合攏來，竟至互相踐踏。
耶穌開始先對自己的門徒說：
「你們要謹防法利塞人的酵母，即他們的虛偽。
但是，沒有遮掩的事，將來不被揭露的；
也沒有隱藏的事，將來不被知道的。
因此，你們在暗處所說的，將來必要在明處被人聽見；
在內室附耳所說的，將來必要在屋頂上張揚出來。
我告訴你們做我朋友的人們：
你們不要害怕那些殺害肉身，而後不能更有所為的人。
我要指給你們，誰是你們所應怕的：
你們應當害怕殺了以後，有權柄把人投入地獄的那一位；
的確，我告訴你們：應當害怕這一位！
五隻麻雀不是賣兩文銅錢嗎？然而在天主前，他們中沒有一隻被遺忘的。
就是你們的頭髮，也一一被數過了；你們不要害怕！你們比許多麻雀尊貴多了。」

At that time:
So many people were crowding together
that they were trampling one another underfoot.
Jesus began to speak, first to his disciples,
"Beware of the leaven–that is, the hypocrisy–of the Pharisees.
"There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed,
nor secret that will not be known.
Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness
will be heard in the light,
and what you have whispered behind closed doors
will be proclaimed on the housetops.
I tell you, my friends,
do not be afraid of those who kill the body
but after that can do no more.
I shall show you whom to fear.
Be afraid of the one who after killing
has the power to cast into Gehenna;
yes, I tell you, be afraid of that one.
Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins?
Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God.
Even the hairs of your head have all been counted.
Do not be afraid.
You are worth more than many sparrows."

（そのとき、）数えきれないほどの群衆が集まって来て、
足を踏み合うほどになった。
イエスは、まず弟子たちに話し始められた。
「ファリサイ派の人々のパン種に注意しなさい。
それは偽善である。
覆われているもので現されないものはなく、
隠されているもので知られずに済むものはない。
だから、あなたがたが暗闇で言ったことはみな、明るみで聞かれ、
奥の間で耳にささやいたことは、屋根の上で言い広められる。
　友人であるあなたがたに言っておく。
体を殺しても、
その後、それ以上何もできない者どもを恐れてはならない。
だれを恐れるべきか、教えよう。
それは、殺した後で、地獄に投げ込む権威を持っている方だ。
そうだ。言っておくが、この方を恐れなさい。
五羽の雀が二アサリオンで売られているではないか。
だが、その一羽さえ、神がお忘れになるようなことはない。
それどころか、あなたがたの髪の毛までも一本残らず数えられている。
恐れるな。あなたがたは、たくさんの雀よりもはるかにまさっている。」
