Pulisic positive about safe-standing and hoping for good fortune in games
ahead
04 Jan 2022
Christian Pulisic noticed an impact on the noisy Stamford Bridge support
he heard on Sunday at the Liverpool game, a contest in which he hoped the
momentum Chelsea built in recovering a two-goal deficit would have taken
us on to victory.

The match was the first in a trial period for safe standing at a selection
of grounds in England or Wales, with Stamford Bridge having the standing
in areas at both ends of the stadium. For Pulisic, having played outside
the Premier League previously, the concept is not something new.
'I know it from seeing it a lot in Germany,' he pointed out, 'and I
definitely think that it helped the atmosphere because it was brilliant
from the fans on Sunday.

'I think we've been a bit unfortunate,' he added, looking at the on-pitch
action. 'We made some mistakes and Liverpool scored two good goals but it
didn't feel like they were killing us or playing us out of the stadium and
we weren't in the game. We just had to keep going.
'I've never seen Mateo Kovacic hit a strike like that before, it was
amazing to watch, and it gave us the momentum to get another one.
'I needed to redeem myself a bit after missing a chance early on that I
should have taken and could have changed the game, so I was happy I took a
really good first touch and put it away for the second goal.

Hammering home his goal on Sunday
'We had all the momentum and wished almost there wasn't a half-time break.
We wanted to just keep going at that stage. We came out and couldn't find
the winner.'
With a cup semi-final, the start of the FA Cup campaign and league
meetings with Manchester City and Tottenham to come this month, Pulisic is
looking for a little spark for the side to achieve its full potential.
'Massive games for sure,' he noted. 'We haven't been getting that stroke
of luck I feel like we've needed in the last games, we just haven't been
able to get the full three points at times which has been frustrating.
Hopefully just one little bit of momentum, some stroke of luck, maybe
something that will change and we can just hopefully take it game by game
and to start to win.'
