這種用法常見到~
雖然文章還是看的懂
但我始終不知道為什麼可以這樣接~
換句話說我絕對不會這樣寫...
只要有逗號+動名詞...就可以一直串句子下去嗎?
這是屬於文法書中的那個部份?
該不會是我從小到大沒一天懂過的分詞構句吧?

那個逗點的確只是表示語氣停頓，文法上沒有意義

是分詞構句(逗號一定要)。"knowing"是現在分詞，不是動名詞。技術性上來說這是dangling participle(分詞（意思上）主詞不是主要子句的主詞)，但是像原句子那樣的虛主詞it的寫法很普遍，"Practical English Usage"(by M. Swan)一書是說".... are common and often seem quite natural,particularly when the main clause has preparatory 'it' ... as a subject." 特別是像這種Sports一類的新聞寫法一般很活/很日常

唔，再仔細看過一遍原句子是：It was back to work, (they) knowing that...they被省略（嚴格來講有語病），逗點是必須的，因為後面是個子句（？）我原來讀成 They went back to work(,) knowing that...這樣的逗點才是可有可無

it是虛主詞代表 knowing後的全部子句(真主詞)
