One of the longest running studios in gaming is facing some tough times,
as has been revealed in an SEC filing.
Interplay, currently working on Fallout Online, could be heading towards a
total shut down.
The studio is currently sitting at over $2.8 million in deficits, with as
little as $3,000 cash-on-hand.
The publisher has had a problem securing credit over the past few years.
The main obligations owed come from unpaid compensation to the company's board
at $239,000 and unpaid state and Federal taxes, at $80,000 and $410,000,
respectively.
"We currently have some obligations that we are unable to meet without
generating additional income or raising additional capital," the company said
in a statement to stockholders.
"If we cannot generate additional income or raise additional capital in the
near future, we may become insolvent and/or be made bankrupt and/or may become
illiquid or worthless."
As for the future of Interplay and titles being developed, Fallout Online might
be in jeopardy.
The title has been in a long-running legal battle with Bethesda over licensing.
Titles from franchises like Earthworm Jim, Descent and other games might also
fold.
Interplay also announced that cutbacks could be in the future for the company,
with 11 jobs being cut to reduce spending should financing not be secured.
