QUESTION: Yes. The Republic of China, Taiwan. The national flag was raised a
t Twin Oaks a few days ago during the New Year ceremony. I’m just wondering
: Is United States aware of this event in advance? And did you get any forma
l or informal protest from the People’s Republic of China – that China?
MS. PSAKI: We did not know about the January 1st flag-raising at Twin Oaks i
n advance. The ceremony is not consistent with U.S. policy. We remain fully
committed to the U.S. One China Policy, based on the three communiques and t

any capacity.

QUESTION: So can we say that is a stronger relationship – mutual trust betw
een the Taiwan and the U.S. relationship? Can we say that?
MS. PSAKI: Nothing has changed as it relates to our relationship.
QUESTION: I’m sorry. I should probably know more about this. You are object
ing to a private ceremony at which there was – that some people raised the
Taiwanese flag?
MS. PSAKI: We just said the ceremony is not consistent with our policy. That
’s it.
QUESTION: Well, so what? I mean
