More than 200 people have been injured in an explosion at a water park in
Taiwan

Of those, more than 80 are described as "seriously injured," according to the
country's state news agency.

The explosion happened at 8.30pm local time today at the Formosa Water Park
in the Bali District.
這起爆炸意外於當地晚間八點三十分在位處八里區的八仙水樂園發生
A New Taipei Fire Department spokesperson told AFP that it was a "powder
spray" that caused the fire.

He said: "Our initial understanding is this explosion and fire... was caused
by the powder spray. It could have been due to the heat of the lights on the
stage."

Several victims allegedly suffered burns to more than 40 per cent of their
bodies.

setting hundreds of people ablaze.

According to local reports a "flammable powder" exploded in the air after the
park's main stage erupted into flames.
據當地媒體報導,一種可燃性粉末在樂園內的舞台起火後,在空氣中爆炸
The park is thought to have been hosting a "Color Day Asia" event, in which
youngsters play with water-soluble paint.

Shocking photographs from the scene show members of the public using
inflatable dinghies to stretcher their friends to ambulances.

Witnesses on Facebook said a mysterious flammable powder spewed into the air
before the fire started.

Officials are yet to determine the cause of the explosion or comment on what
the mysterious powder was.

One male witness told local news channel CTI: "It started on the left side of
the stage. At the beginning I thought it was part of the special effects of
the party but then I realised there was something wrong and people started
screaming and running."

Local mayor Eric Chu said: "We are very sorry about what happened and we will
investigate the cause to find out who is responsible.

Officials have now launched an investigation into the fire and local media
have warned that the number of victims could increase.

Dozens of fire trucks were dispatched following the blaze and, according to
officials, it was tackled and controlled very quickly.
據官方表示,數十台消防車在爆炸起火後馬上進行調度支援,火勢很快地被控制下來
Taiwan is currently enjoying 36C heat and many youngsters flocked to the
water park to swim.
