HONG KONG — Hundreds of people were injured at a water park in Taiwan on Satu
rday when a cloud of colored powder ignited in the air over a crowd during an
event, erupting into a huge fireball.

No deaths were reported, but at least 516 people were injured, 194 seriously,
including eight with life-threatening injuries, the island’s official Central
News Agency reported. The injured, many suffering burns, were overwhelmingly
young, in their 20s or younger, according to a roster posted on the news agenc
y’s website.
據台灣中央社報導，沒有人喪命；但至少有516人因此受傷，其中194人受到重傷，並有8
人有生命危急。由中央社網頁公佈傷員名單中，絕大多是數年約20甚或是低於20者。

Video taken at the scene showed the flames erupting within the crowd at the ev
ent, called Color Play Asia, about 8:30 p.m., after nightfall. People were sho
wn carrying the injured from the scene in inflatable rafts, and others were sh
own running away, silhouetted by flames. The fire was quickly controlled, but
not before hundreds were hurt, the agency said.
影片中，烈火在一場名為「彩虹派對」的活動裡引爆；而這場大火，大約發生在日落後的

Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare said on its website that Taipei-area
hospitals had many victims requiring skin grafts. The ministry said hospitals
were also urgently requesting other medical supplies needed to treat burns.

The victims were mostly from Taiwan, with only four people from mainland China
and two citizens of other countries, the agency reported. They were being tre
ated at 38 hospitals in the Taipei area, the agency said, citing Wang Zhe-chao
, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Welfare. One 18-year-old woman, w
ho was not identified, suffered burns on 90 percent of her body, the news agen
cy reported.

Taiwan’s prime minister, Mao Chi-kuo, told reporters on Sunday that public ev
ents using airborne colored paint powder would be banned and that the governme
nt would set up a group to deal with the treatment and rehabilitation of peopl
e who were injured.
Color Play Asia bills itself as Asia’s biggest color party, an event where pe
ople dance to music while spraying each other with colored powder. A promotion
al video for the event on its Facebook page shows employees on a stage blastin
g colored powder onto the crowd.
台灣行政院長-毛治國-則在星期日告訴記者，當天晚會使用的彩虹粉將被禁止，並且會組
成因應小組，負責處理有關傷者治療與復健的相關問題。「彩派」自稱為雅洲最大的彩粉
趴踢，所謂粉趴，就是一群人在音樂中一邊互噴對方七彩的粉，然後一邊跳舞。可以從臉
書上的一廣為流傳影片看到，彩派員工在台上向群眾頭上拋灑彩粉。
“I hope you give a reasonable explanation to all the families who have been h
urt by this,” one commenter wrote on the site’s page.
「我希望你可以給出一個合理的解釋，好給那些受災家屬一個交代。」一位網在該網評論
道。
The Central News Agency reported that the person at the park responsible for e
vents, Lu Zhongji, 41, as well as two other employees, had been taken to a nea
rby police station for questioning. The police may charge several employees wi
th negligence and public endangerment, the agency said. The cause of the explo
sion is still under investigation.
The powder that Color Play Asia uses is made of cornstarch and food coloring,
according to a post the company made on its Facebook account. The post added t
hat its products were in line with standards set by SGS, which is a Geneva-bas
ed testing, inspection and verification company. No one at the company was ava
ilable over the weekend to comment on whether Color Play Asia’s products did
get SGS certification and whether that process also included tests for flammab
ility. No one at the company immediately answered an email inquiry made on Sun
day.

沒人回復在星期日寄往該公司的質詢電子郵件。

al. On Sunday, the park’s Facebook page showed a picture of a man with his ha
nds clasped together as if in prayer.
