先前就有不少網友質疑展覽的真實性，但其實只要用 Google Da Vinci Self Portrait
就會查到一個標題為 Lucan Portrait of Leonardo da Vinci 的維基連結：

開頭文章簡述這幅畫的來歷，然後就是這段

位於義大利弗羅倫斯的達文西博物館館長 Alessandro Vezzosi
在2011年時就排除這真幅畫是達文西親筆自畫相的可能性了。
無庸置疑的是，這幅畫是極具爭議的，但官網跟粉絲頁都號稱這是達文西的真跡

官方還說這幅畫是私人收藏，不公開展出，就算出國也看不到

「Experts, however, stressed that the age of the wood didn't necessarily mean the portrait was painted at that time and that more tests had to be conducted.
The name of the artist who painted the image was also still being investigated, but the experts did rule out that it was a Leonardo self-portrait.
The director of the Ideal Museum of Leonardo da Vinci stressed that the experts were "in the middle of researching, discussing and comparing several hypotheses that, however, must have a just measure, an appropriate limit".
Professor Alessandro Vezzosi added that he himself did not think it was a Leonardo portrait - although he would love it to be.」
在台灣展覽時，官方卻完全忽略了學術性質跟爭議，宣稱是價值70億的達文西真跡
讓有許多台灣人付了錢進展場以為看到了天才的稀世名作
但實際上只見到了一幅有爭議的文藝復興時期的藝術作品。
