這項禁令是歐盟菸草製品指令(TPD)的一部分，於2014年加入法律，2016年五月在歐洲國家
生效。
The ban is part of the EU Tobacco Product Directive laws which was introduced
in May 2014 and became applicable to European countries in May 2016.
發現店家販售這禁止口味的香菸可開罰上至一萬歐元
Shops that are found selling the banned flavour can face a fine of up to €10,
000.
禁止這類香菸其中一個主要原因是因為薄荷菸似乎因為味道關係，傷害比較小。
相反的，已經證明薄荷香菸對人體健康具有相同危害與政府希望預防年輕人成癮。
One of the main reasons behind the banning of these types of cigarettes is that
they’re seen as less harmful by young people because of their flavour. Instead
it has been proven that menthol cigarettes are just as harmful for people’s
health and the authorities want to prevent youngsters from becoming addicted.
