又名空頭公司或紙上公司，
在日本稱為幽靈會社因而衍伸出幽靈公司的用法。
與一種出現在離岸金融中心已經開設的公司法人，有公司名字，
但是與還未有經營業務的現成公司
（Readymade company／Shelf company／Aged corporation）是不同的。
在用途與目的上又與虛設（行號）公司（dummy corporation ，dummy company）不同。
