The next generation of graphics technology is looming ahead, and there is
speculation that Nvidia is preparing to release its flagship RTX 4090 first.
The GPU battle continues on as both Nvidia and AMD prepare to leap into the
next graphics hardware generation. While Intel has yet to launch its Arc
desktop cards, the other two giants of the industry have already been making
headway, with team green looking to unveil its Ada Lovelace sooner than
expected and team red hoping to get RDNA 3 out within the next few months. On
top of that, there's been some suggestion that Jensen Huang and the team at
Nvidia have already confirmed the release schedule for Ada, and some may be
surprised.
According to a recent tweet by known leaker kopite7kimi, there's a
possibility that Nvidia may launch the RTX 4090 first. In response to
3DCenter on Twitter, the industry leaker has said that there's been
confirmation that the 4090 will release, followed by the 4080, and then the
4070. This is a little different to the launch of the current generation of
cards, with the RTX 3080 coming out first and then the 3090.
Obviously, it should go without saying that this is just a rumor, and while
kopite7kimi is generally considered a reliable source when it comes to leaks,
readers should still take the notion of the schedule being "confirmed" with a
grain of salt. With Nvidia looking to reveal the RTX 40-series this summer,
possibly in July, it's very likely that the firm will make some sort of
announcement soon, which may or may not confirm the details of the GPU
release schedule.
Nvidia is also getting ready to launch the GTX 1650, a card that's based on
the Turing architecture from the previous generation, so there's a sense that
team green wishes to get as much mileage out of this current era as it can.
While GPU prices are continuing to come down, there is still the matter of
the chip shortages, which might be ongoing until 2024. With that in mind,
there could still be supply issues when Ada and team red's offerings do
become available.
Nvidia also has to fight back against AMD which is looking to decimate the
competition with RDNA 3. Both companies have been at loggerheads for some
time now, so there'll be a lot of scrambling for the top once the next
generation emerges. With the RTX 4090 allegedly coming out first, it seems as
though Nvidia wants to hit the ground running with one of its most powerful
graphics cards, and so the competition may need to pull something equally
competitive out of the bag.
