https://i.imgur.com/U9A5bkA.png
I was waiting at the MRT station and noticed it was time to take my
medication. My back was hurting and I was in a lot of pain, so I took out my
pills, discreetly took a quick sip of water from my backpack to flush them
down, and then zipped up my bag.
The security guard walked across nearly the entire train station, moved past
another family where a kid was drinking a tea from 7-11, and reprimanded me
very loudly about being a disrespectful foreigner and how I shouldn’t drink
in the MRT station. I showed him my medication and he shouted that he didn’t
care and then walked away. It was super embarrassing and my face got so red
and everyone was staring at me.
I’ve tried super hard to represent foreigners who look like me well here and
treat everyone with respect, but this was the first time I felt really
uncomfortable and I wondering if it was my fault? Could I have done something
differently? I can’t stop thinking about this interaction but I also can’t
not take the medicine I need to function properly.
