EPA Points to Nuclear as Climate Solution
美國環保署EPA:核能是解決氣候問題的方法
The Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging states to consider
building new nuclear plants, and preserve existing ones, to respond to the
Obama administration's newly unveiled proposal to slash carbon dioxide
emissions from the nation's power plants.
According to the report, state incentives could “discourage premature
retirement” of existing plants and “encourage deployment of nuclear unit
designs that reflect advances over earlier designs.” Retaining the nuclear
capacity that is at risk of retirement could help avoid 200 to 300 million
metric tons of CO2 over the initial compliance period of ten years, the EPA
says.
