The 2014-15 Los Angeles Lakers are facing a tough season ahead. Boasting
talent like Carlos Boozer and Wayne Ellington, the roster is filled with
no-names and has-beens. Kobe Bryant, depending on who you believe, is no
longer considered an elite player in the NBA, and Byron Scott is the coach

Lakers, when they were readying themselves for the upcoming season, were
loaded with a roster that was arguably worse than cast of characters Los
Angeles is currently employing.

Fresh off a losing appearance in the 2004 NBA Finals, the Lakers were in
shambles. Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe, and Phil Jackson had reached a trifecta of

Jackson decided he was finished and resigned from the team (and eventually
released his scathing anti-Kobe memoir, The Last Season: A Team in Search of
Its Soul).

As a result of all this turmoil, Kobe became stuck with a batch of new-look
Lakers who didn't look like anything Los Angeles had seen before. Coached by
the aging Rudy Tomjanovich, the 2004-05 Lakers started out the NBA season

first losing record in 11 seasons. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat were dominating

perspective on the Kobe's current situation, we found out where all of his
2004-05 Lakers teammates have been hiding since that fruitless 34-48 season

Chucky Atkins
By trading away veterans Gary Payton and Rick Fox, the Los Angeles Lakers
netted Chucky Atkins from the Boston Celtics, along with center Chris Mihm
and swingman Jumaine Jones. Atkins had experienced some tough luck prior to
joining the Lakers. After playing four seasons with the Detroit Pistons, he
was traded to the Boston Celtics midway through the 2003-04 season in
exchange for Mike James, narrowly missing out on Detroit's championship

Then, just months later, in August, Atkins found himself on the Lakers, who

team which had been previously led by Gary Payton and Derek Fisher

in exchange for Kwame Brown and Laron Profit. Yikes.

Signed for one season by Los Angeles, and appearing in just two games, former
Cincinnati Bearcats shooting guard Tony Bobbitt came to the Lakers as an
undrafted free agent still looking to get his shot in the league. However, he
would leave Los Angeles with his career in essentially the same condition.
Bobbitt was demoted to the developmental league by the Lakers, eventually
going on an extended march between teams in Europe, Mexico, and the lowest
levels of professional ball.

Tierre Brown
Tierre Brown played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Hornets
before finally making his way to Hollywood in 2004, but the glitz and glamour
of Los Angeles would have no particularly memorable effects on his career, as
the guard was quickly swept out of the league following the 2004-05 season

Caron Butler is one of the few players on this roster who is still currently
active in the league, having just signed a 2-year/$9M contract with the
Detroit Pistons during the offseason. However, Butler's time in Lakerland was
short. After being traded to Los Angeles in exchange for Shaquille O'Neal
(the Lakers also received Lamar Odom, Brian Cook, and Brian Grant), Butler
was able to acquit himself well, averaging what were then career highs for
him in shooting, rebounding, and free throw percentage

patella tendon in his right knee

alongside Karl Malone and Shaquille O'Neal. What more could a rookie big man
ask for?

However, none of the greatness from the Mailman nor Shaq would rub off on
Cook. A first round pick for Los Angeles in 2003 NBA Draft, Cook would never
fully pan out for the purple and gold, eventually getting traded away to
Orlando in a trade that gave the Lakers Trevor Ariza.

From there, Cook bounced around the league, playing for Orlando, Houston, the

with the Detroit Pistons on September 25. For now, Cook is an NBA player
again. However, it is unknown whether he'll be around to see the Pistons make
their season debut against the Denver Nuggets on September 29
