Few in major-league history have played for more teams in one league without
ever changing leagues than the itinerant outfielder, who is expected to join
his seventh AL franchise.
Last week, Tigers reliever Octavio Dotel broke a rather lofty major-league
record: He appeared in a game for his 13th team, more than any player
all-time. But while Dotel is baseball's preeminent nomad, another journeyman
accomplished something Thursday arguably even more impressive.
Dotel待過十三支不同隊伍
Outfielder Johnny Damon is expected to sign with the Indians, which would be
his seventh team. This alone deserves recognition—rarely does a position
player bounce around as much as Damon. But when you consider that all seven
teams are in the same league, this unusual feat nearly makes history.
Damon將為第七支球隊效力,有什麼大不了的嗎?
喔喔! 七隊都在同一個聯盟(AL),這可值得注意囉!
Only four players in major-league history have played for more teams without
ever changing leagues. (They all played for eight.) The best-known is Lenny
Harris, a pinch-hitter extraordinaire who played from 1988 to 2005 for the
Reds, Dodgers, Mets, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Cubs and Brewers, all in
the National League.
細數過去,到目前只有四名球員有這種記錄
(他們生涯都待了八隊)
Damon, of course, is a junior-circuit guy. He came up with the Royals, spent
a year with Athletics, then four eventful years apiece with the Red Sox and
Yankees before a year each with the Tigers and Rays. Damon has played for
three teams in the AL East and is working on his third in the Central. There
are 14 teams in the league; he's on the cusp of playing for half.
目前美聯十四隊,Damon一半走透透
It's conceivable that Damon's list could grow again next year. His limited
outfield skills make him almost exclusively a designated hitter at this
point, and he currently sits just 277 hits away from 3,000.
