Not so long ago, the idea that a baby-faced Rockies starting pitcher could go
toe to toe with the likes of Nationals sensation Stephen Strasburg seemed
preposterous.

That was before Drew Pomeranz — version 2.0.

Making his second start since being recalled from the Triple-A Colorado Springs
Sky Sox, Pomeranz pitched 6 ? scoreless innings Friday night, allowing only one
bloop single as the Rockies won 5-1 at Nationals Park.
從天襪隊強勢回歸以後的第二場球，Pomeranz完美封鎖了國民打線...
只讓他們打出一支不是很營養的鳥安....
"Their guy just pounded the strike zone today and beat us, simple as that,"
said Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond.

簡單說就是這樣...
Tyler Colvin, one of the few Rockies thriving both at home and on the road,
sparked the offense. He hit a monstrous solo home run off Strasburg in the
second inning, giving the Rockies a 1-0 lead. He hit a two-run shot off
Strasburg in the fourth, increasing the Rockies' lead to 3-0.

He finished the night 3-for-4 with three RBIs. He became the first player to
hit two homers off Strasburg in the same game.
When Pomeranz was sent down to Triple-A on May 11, his mechanics were out of
kilter and his fastball was hovering at 89 mph. Friday night, his fastball came
at Nationals hitters like a freight train, topping out at 95 mph. Pomeranz owns
a wicked curve, but his fastball was more than enough to handcuff the Nationals.
Of the 81 pitches he threw, 74 were fastballs.

"I don't remember the last time I threw that many, but my location was really
good tonight," Pomeranz said.
Pomeranz — who had failed to notch a victory since the final day of last
season, a streak spanning six starts — finally got in the win column.
Rockies manager Jim Tracy called Pomeranz's outing "spectacular" and praised
Pomeranz for his maturation over the last few months.
"He's not only a different pitcher, he's a different person since coming back
up," Tracy said. "He has a whole different demeanor."

Pomeranz was so good, he garnered polite applause from the crowd at Nationals
Park when Tracy removed him with out in the seventh inning.

Why the hook? Because Pomeranz had thrown 81 pitches (53 strikes), exceeding
the prescribed 75-pitch count that's central to Colorado's four-starter system.

The only hit Pomeranz allowed was a bloop single to shallow center by Bryce
Harper in the fourth. Had it not been for some miscommunication between center
fielder Dexter Fowler and shortstop Jonathan Herrera, Pomeranz would have kept
the Nationals hitless.

"Had that ball not fallen in, I think he would have pitched a bit longer,"
Tracy said with a wry smile and a nod to Pomeranz's potential no-hitter.

The sound of broken bats has become the soundtrack of a Pomeranz start.
His heavy four-seam fastball cracked 10 bats when he went six effective innings
against the Padres on July 1. He didn't allow an earned run, but the Rockies
lost 2-0. Friday night, he turned four Nationals bats into kindling.
斷棒的聲音已經變成了 Pomeranz 投球時的配樂。

"He just kept throwing that hard fastball in on them, so that's what I kept
calling," catcher Wil Nieves said. "When he has late movement like that, he's
really tough to hit."

Over his last two starts, Pomeranz has pitched 12.1 innings, allowing no earned
runs and just three hits.
"I think I really got back on track when I got sent down," he said. "I kind of
would got out there not quite sure what I had. Now I feel very confident in
myself, I feel good out there."

Pomeranz是2010年第一輪第五順位被印地安人所選上，在去年因為U-Ball交易案來到洛磯
因為簽約不滿一年不能被正式交易，所以他一直到八月才來洛磯報到。
今年季初他的投球動作有些走樣，所以洛磯決定把他下放天襪隊去調整，事實上他被下放
的第一場球球速就找回來了(改動作發揮立竿見影的效果?)第二場就投出了6局的無安打。
但洛磯為了讓他把姿勢固定好，即使上面炸的亂七八糟，還是讓他在天襪投了8場才回來。
