New York Yankees starter Andy Pettitte is expected to again announce his
retirement from Major League Baseball, according to multiple media reports.
The left-hander is going to make it official Friday, according to reports.
Jim Murray, Pettitte's agent, would neither confirm nor deny that Pettitte
has made a decision, he told ESPNNewYork.com's Andrew Marchand.
Pettitte has spent 15 of his 18 years in the league with the Yankees, playing
from 2004-06 with his hometown Houston Astros. He retired in 2010 but
returned to the Yankees last year.
A three-time All-Star with 255 career wins, Pettitte won five World Series
with the Yankees and appeared in the Fall Classic in 2005 with the Astros. He
is the all-time leader in postseason victories with 19.
Pettitte is 10-10 with a 3.93 ERA this season for a Yankees team that is
fading in the playoff chase. If New York doesn't make it, Pettitte is slated
to make his final Yankee Stadium start Sunday. His last start of the season
would come in Houston.
