Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Pirates and starting pitcher
Charlie Morton have agreed to a three-year, $21 million contract extension.
The extension covers Morton's final year of salary arbitration and his first
two years of free agency. Morton, who recently turned 30 years old, missed
time over the last two seasons due to surgery on his labrum as well as his
elbow. The Pirates are banking on the performance they saw from the
right-hander after he returned from his rehab in June 2013. He registered a
promising 3.26 ERA in 116 innings over 20 starts.
