Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM reports that Starling Marte's
extension with the Pirates is worth $31 million over six years.
The contract, which includes two option years, is pending a physical. We're
still waiting for word on the exact structure of the deal, but it at least
buys out one pre-arbitration season, all three arbitration seasons, and at
least two years of free agency. The Pirates have already locked up Andrew
McCutchen and have top prospect Gregory Polanco on the way, so if all goes
well, they won't have to worry about their outfield for a while.
