Heyman: Cubs have offered Jon Lester $138M
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs have offered Jon Lester a
six-year, $138 million contract.
It appears to be the high bid at this point, with Heyman saying the Red Sox
are willing to stretch their offer to $130 million. Those two clubs are
looking like the heavy favorites to sign the left-hander, but the Giants, who
met with Lester on Monday, could make a push. Manager Bruce Bochy flew to
Atlanta (where Lester lives) to help court the pitcher and Heyman notes that
San Fran will also use Lester's good friend, Tim Hudson, to recruit the
southpaw. The Braves, Cardinals, Blue Jays and Royals have also been
connected with Lester.
