De Gea - 6
Had very little to do and could do nothing about Adam Smith's consolation
goal for Bournemouth.
Valencia - 8
Started where he left off in pre-season. He was one of United's key attacking
threats and it was his cross that set up Rooney's header.
Shaw - 6
Didn't have the same impact as Valencia on the right but managed to recover
from a nervous start. Will have better games.
Bailly - 8
It was his Premier League debut but you wouldn't have known it. Didn't try
anything fancy, just defended properly whenever he had to.
Blind - 7
Riled Mourinho in the first half with too many long balls to Ibrahimovic but
otherwise looked comfortable. (Riled Mourinho....XDDDD)
Herrera - 6
Kept the ball moving in midfield but Bournemouth's ferocious pressing meant
he never got much time to pick out a pass.
Fellaini - 8
Quietly had a very good game in midfield. Kept it simple with the ball and
broke up a lot in midfield. Defended well at set pieces.
Mata - 7
Surprise starter on the right. Didn't see much of the ball in the first half
but benefited from a slice of luck to score United's first. More involved
after half-time.
Martial - 6
Looked dangerous when he cut inside onto his right foot but was starved of
the ball for much of the game. Will get better.
Rooney - 6
Still looks like he's finding his feet in the role behind Ibrahimovic. Had
two good chances to score before adding United's second.
Ibrahimovic - 7
Barely saw the ball in the first half but created one chance for Rooney with
a delicious flick after the break before scoring a fantastic third.
Substitutes
Mkhitaryan (for Mata 75) - 6
Busy on the right.
Schneiderlin (for Martial 85) - 6
Shut up shop.
Memphis (for Rooney 89) - 6
Killed time.
Not used: Romero, Rojo, Carrick, Rashford.

David De Gea - 6
Would be unfair to criticise him for failing to stop Smith’s goal. Superb
late save. Apart from that, he was not tested much by Bournemouth, who failed
to turn decent possession into real chances.
Antonio Valencia - 6
A threat with his pace going forward down the right, which he utilised
several times.
Eric Bailly - 7.5
Showed outstanding composure for his Premier League debut and excellent
passing, as if he has played in that back line for years. Polished, already.
Daley Blind - 7
Kept going long to Ibrahimovic from the back in the first half, which
Mourinho was unhappy about. But had a good game; the highlight a crucial
last-man tackle to stop Ibe going through on goal.
Luke Shaw - 6
Lost the ball in the box early on, almost gifting Wilson a goal. Still looked
like he is returning to 100 per cent after missing the majority of last
season.
Marouane Fellaini - 7.5
Not always pretty, but Fellaini made important interceptions, won headers
inside his own box and got about Bournemouth’s midfield.
Ander Herrera - 6
His ball forward started the self-inflicted havoc by Bournemouth which led to
Mata’s opening goal. Booked for a lazy trip late on.
Juan Mata - 7.5 (Mkhitaryan 75 - 6)
Great persistent running to force the fortunate opening goal. Close control,
often involved. Showed Mourinho he deserves a place in the starting XI.
Wayne Rooney - 6 (Depay 89)
United’s worst player in the first half, could barely control the ball. A
low shot on 27 minutes was easily saved. Kept breaking up United’s attacks,
but then scored a great, controlled header.
Anthony Martial - 6.5 (Schneiderlin 85)
Five kick ups before nonchalantly passing the ball off after 25 seconds.
Later dribbled inside from the left but hit a wayward shot. Set up Rooney’s
header with a miscued volley.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic - 8
Amazing strike for the third, finding the bottom left corner. Cleaned out two
Bournemouth defenders going for an early header. Incredible out-side of the
boot back flick to play in Rooney. Volley-passes galore, all finding their
man. Almost scored with a free kick.
Subs not used: Rojo, Carrick, Rashford, Romero.
