My boyfriend (33) is wrapping up his specialty training, right now he makes about $60k/year as a surgical resident. He has signed a contract for his first job, starting in September he will make $300k/year. I (29 F) am also a professional in my first year of working, I do pretty good for myself ($150k/yr) but I make no where close to what he will make. In the past 6 months that we have been together, I feel like my bf hasn’t been generous towards me. For example one time he suggested that we tried out a
slightly fancier restaurant ($80/person). When I asked if he could pay for my meal, he said no at first stating that right now I make almost 3x as much as he does. He finally agreed to pay for me after I pointed out that I was not happy, and that I expected the man to pay more during a relationship. We are about to take our first vacation together as a couple, and he insisted that each of us pay exactly 50% for this trip (which I agreed to this time). He mentioned that he wanted the 2 of us to take a
more expensive vacation trip next year, and when I asked how should we pay for it he still said 50-50 each (keep in mind he will make double my income next year). One time he also asked my opinion regarding a prenup. Overall, I am an independent woman that don’t need money from a man, but I have a feeling my bf is stingy towards me. What are your thoughts regarding my situation? Red flags from him?
