CHANDLER PARSONS FINDS OFFENSIVE RHYTHM AFTER UP-AND-DOWN START TO ’14-15

DALLAS — After weaving his way through an up-and-down start to the 2014-15
season, Dallas Mavericks new addition Chandler Parsons seems to be finding a
rhythm on offense in the last three games.

Since starting the season averaging 14.9 points per game on 41 percent
shooting and 32 percent from three-point range in the first 21 outings,
Parsons has hit a hot streak while upping those numbers to 26.0 points per
game on 64.4 percent shooting and 59.1 percent from behind the three-point
line in his last three outings. The spike in production comes from hard work,
according to Mavs coach Rick Carlisle, who has spent extra time after
practice fine-tuning Parsons’ shooting stroke.

throughout the season.

“Well, we’re just working on simple technic things, simple mindset things
and things in rhythm,” Carlisle explained. “I’m not going to get into
details on it, but the fact that he’s working hard at it is the biggest
thing.”

Spending his first three seasons in the league with the Houston Rockets,
Parsons was known for his versatility before joining the Mavs this summer
during free agency after averaging 14.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and
1.1 steals in his previous 213 career games. He also saw the most offensive
success in his budding career last season in 74 appearances for the Rockets,
averaging 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 47.2
percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range.

Still, as Parsons freely admits, there remained mechanical issues with his
shooting form. And with the help of Carlisle to make a few minor tweaks,
Parsons hopes to address those issues while raising his shooting percentage
this season.

“Just shooting the same shot, keeping it high, having good balance and not
fading away. You know, I have some bad habits,” Parsons admitted while
addressing what he views as flaws in his shooting mechanics. “I kick my foot
out, I fade away, I shoot it flat, but now I’m just doing all those things
and shooting the same shot every time. And the higher the shot, the softer
the release. So, I’m just trying to get it up higher.

If you look at my shot, it’s pretty much the same shot — same mechanics. I
know how to shoot. I’ve been playing basketball my whole life, so I’m not
going to change anything drastically. But it’s good to see yourself on film.
And having all these new eyes and new coaches that are seeing some different
stuff, I’m coachable and I listen. And if it works, I’ll stick with it.”

Making subtle changes to his shot, Parsons has began to see more success at
the offensive end in recent games. The 6-foot-9 forward has also looked to
attack the basket more to the delight of his teammates.
再出手上做了一些微妙的變化後，Parsons在近幾場的比賽開始看到成果，而且他也開始
對籃框做更多的進攻，來激勵隊友們。
In addition to ranking third on the team in scoring while averaging 16.3
points per game, Parsons is also dishing out 2.3 assists an outing while
getting his teammates involved. With that said, facilitating to teammates is
a department 12-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki believes Parsons can contribute
more in even when his shot isn’t falling. And after showing an ability to
get in the lane and find teammates during stretches this season, Parsons may
be asked to become more of a playmaker in order to help the Mavericks (17-7)
reach their ultimate goal.

He kind of leans back, but I don’t think he’s doing anything different. You
know, just sometimes you go through little stretches where just nothing seems
to go in, and then you go through stretches where you can’t seem to miss.
And in those stretches where you’re having a tough time, you’ve got to keep
fighting. You’ve got to keep stepping into your shots and you’ve got to
make plays for your teammates, which he’s great at when he drives off the
pick-and-roll,” Nowitzki explained when assessing Parsons’ play through 24
games this season. “He’s a great lob passer to the guys, so we want him to
stay aggressive and make plays for himself and others on nights when he’s
not shooting the ball that well. Obviously, we want him to do more than just
stand there and shoot threes. You know, we want him to be effective and drive
and get to the basket. He’s got that little Euro step in the lane, so that’
s what he’s got to do.”
