The Dallas Mavericks sent scouting department representatives on an Eastern
swing this week, sources tell DallasBasketball,com, to observe workouts
sponsored by some of the most powerful agencies in the business.

These candidates, as they relate to Dallas, can be bunched into different
categories. Monk and Collins are considered by the Mavs to be “top-10,’’
as DB.com reports here. But Dallas views Monk as a shoot-first guard, and
the Mavs' idea is a pass-first point guard. Meanwhile, Dallas doesn’t
necessarily want to double-up in using assets at center (with restricted free
agent Nerlens Noel a club priority). We write about how that applies to

late-first-rounder. And Giles is in another category altogether, a blue-chip
6-11 big who has sustained torn ACLs in both knees and is therefore facing a
great deal of medical scrutiny by the Mavs and all the other teams.

In a few days, Mavs boss Donnie Nelson will return from his European scouting
tour, at which point Dallas will begin hosting its own pre-Draft workout
sessions, with a max of six players at a time coming to town. Those names
will be important then.
