P127 ,a designer specifies a system for producing a dispersion of
cyclohexane in wa-ter.water at 25?C flows at a rate of 9 L/min through a pipe
of inside diameter 5 cm and axial length 1 m . The volume fraction of
cyclohexane in water is 0.005. The inlet tube diameter is 10 mm. What mean
drop size do you predict ?
a. Suppose the volumetric flowrate is doubled.
By what factor does the mean drop size change?
b. Suppose the diameter of the pipe is increased
by a factor of 2,without any change in flowrate(i.e. ,still at 9 L/min)
By what factor does the mean drop size change?
