很多賽事 包括各大洲盃錦標賽[和資格賽] 世界盃資格賽 奧運資格賽
都將有重大改變

參賽球隊將擴編為32隊 主辦國 1席 非洲 5席 美洲 7席 亞洲大洋洲 7席 歐洲 12席
世界盃資格賽將採主客雙循環制 類似世界盃足球賽的資格賽
比賽月有:2017年11月 2018年2 6 9 11月 2019年2月 每隊每個比賽月打兩場 一主一客
賽制如下:
第一輪:美洲區 非洲區 亞大區 每區的DIVISION A 有16隊參賽
16隊分成4組 每組4隊 打主客雙循環
各組前三名晉級第二輪 各組最後一名降級至DIVISION B
歐洲區的DIVISION A 有32隊參賽
32隊分成8組 每組4隊 打主客雙循環
各組前三名晉級第二輪 各組最後一名降級至DIVISION B
第二輪:每一個洲晉級的球隊 分成6隊一組
打主客雙循環賽 第一輪同組對戰成績保留
這個賽制跟現行的亞錦賽複賽相同
A B組前三名共6隊 編入E組 預賽同組對戰成績保留

The first round of the Americas, Asia / Oceania and Africa qualifiers will
feature 16 teams each, whereas Europe will have 32 teams. Division A teams
will be split in groups of four, to be held in a home-and-away round-robin.
The top three teams in each groups will advance to round two, and last placed
teams will play the best Division B teams to qualify for the next season's
Division A.
In round two of the World Cup qualifiers, teams will be split in groups of six,
totalling four groups in Europe and four in the other qualifiers. Teams will
carry over the points from round one, and face another three teams again in a
home-and-away round-robin. The best teams in each group will qualify for the
World Cup.
There are concerns from national associations that they will not be abled to
play the qualifiers with National Basketball Association players, which was
possible with the continental championships held in mid-year.

這樣子下來 要打進世界盃籃球賽 必須打12場比賽
奧運資格賽的部份 將在2020年6月舉行
詳情不清楚 但世界盃冠軍將直接晉級奧運
各大洲錦標賽 也將改成四年一次
下一次亞錦賽將在2017年舉行
再下一次是2021年 到時候亞洲大洋洲將變成"亞太錦標賽"
2021年的亞太錦標賽資格賽 也是打主客雙循環賽
