Spurs crush Miami in Game 5 to secure fifth NBA championship

End 1st quarter: The Spurs could not duplicate their flawless offensive form
in Miami, shooting just 29 percent as Miami led by as many as 16 points in
the first quarter. The Spurs still cut it down to seven by the end of the
period, with Manu Ginobili sparking a 12-0 run with six points and an assist.
But LeBron James has been incredible so far, scoring 17 points with six
rebounds while helping hold Tony Parker to 0 for 4 shooting.

Halftime: The Spurs have stormed back to take control of Game 5, outscoring
the Heat 41-18 since falling behind by 16 late in the first quarter to put
themselves one half away from clinching the championship.
Perhaps overcome by nerves, neither team is shooting well — 38.2 percent for
the Spurs, 39.5 percent for Miami. But while LeBron James (20 points, eight
rebounds) is about the only Heat player doing much of note, the Spurs are
getting good performances from several, most notably Kawhi Leonard and Manu
Ginobili.
The former has 15 points and six rebounds to offset much of James’
onslaught, while Ginobili has 14 points. He jump-started the Spurs’
comeback with six points during a 12-0 run that started it, then threw down
a monster dunk in traffic over Chris Bosh as they built come cushion late in
the first half.

their lead as high as 22 points and now 19 entering what looks to be the
fourth and final quarter of the 2013-14 season. Patty Mills erupted for 14
points in the quarter, including four 3-pointers, as the Spurs extended their
epic, game-changing run to 59-22 spanning from the middle of the first
quarter to the middle of the third.

collapse in last year’s Finals was realized Sunday at the AT&T Center, where
they crushed Miami 104-87 in Game 5 to win their first championship in seven
years, and fifth overall.
The Spurs trailed by 16 early on, but roared back with a massive 59-22 surge
spanning the middle of the first quarter until midway through the third. The
Heat would get no closer than 14 than that as their run of two straight
championships, including their 4-3 victory over the Spurs last year, was
brought to an emphatic end.
Kawhi Leonard had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Manu Ginobili added 19 and Patty
Mills scored 14 of his 17 points in the third quarter as the Spurs blew the
game open. They won the four games in the series by 15, 19, 21 and 17 for one
of the most lopsided Finals victories in history.
