Pau to Knicks?
Phil Jackson reportedly reached out to unrestricted free agent Pau Gasol via
phone to make his pitch for the big man to join the Knicks.
It's worth noting that Gasol made $19 million last season, and the Knicks
currently can only offer him $3.3 million, so he would need to take a
substantial pay cut to sign in New York. However, if the Knicks make some
salary shedding moves, they could potentially offer the non-taxpayer mid-level
exception at $5 million per season. Gasol has stated that he'd be willing to
take a pay cut to join a contender, and he does have a good relationship with
Jackson. The Thunder, Warriors, Mavericks, Heat, and Bulls have also expressed
interest in acquiring Gasol's services.
