The Nets coach said Saturday point guard Deron Williams is no longer a
franchise player, according to ESPN New York.

"He's not a franchise player anymore," Hollins said one day after his Nets
were eliminated from the NBA playoffs by the Hawks. "He's a good player, he's
a solid player, but I don't think he's a franchise player anymore. That's
just my opinion. He's a good player."

To be fair, Hollins said you don’t necessarily need a franchise player to
win in the NBA.
"There are teams that have won championships without franchise players, what
everyone considers a franchise player. I'm not worried about that. That's
something you guys talk about and worry about," Hollins said. "I worry about
us going out there and playing hard, playing together and trying to scratch
and claw to win a game. That's what it's all about."

The numbers seem to back Hollins up. Williams has averaged 17 points and 8.5
assists per game for his career, but averaged just 13 points and 6.6 assists
in 2014-2015. Those stats represent his lowest numbers since his rookie
season.

Williams' disappointing play continued in the playoffs as he averaged just

It will be interesting to see if the two can continue to work together after
such a public calling-out.
