The Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista took a vicious punch to the face from the
Rangers’ Rougned Odor, which sparked a massive bench-clearing brawl on
Sunday. And while Bautista was all right after the game, a fellow Toronto pro
athlete has offered his protection.
Following Toronto’s Game 7 win over the Heat, Raptors forward DeMarre
Carroll caught up with TSN’s Cabral Richards for an interview. They
immediately spoke about Bautista’s incident, but Carroll wanted Bautista to
know that he has his back.
He said:
“If he needs my help, my assistance, to come in and be a force — the ‘
Junkyard Dog.'”
Carroll went on:
“So, I’m just telling Bautista … call me.”
Carroll is nicknamed the “Junkyard Dog” in part because of his toughness.
He’s shown a willingness to play through injury and doesn’t shy away from
contact. If there’s one player who could protect Bautista, it’s probably
DeMarre Carroll.
