Don't look now, but the San Antonio Spurs officially own the top record in the
NBA.
With their victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, the Spurs overtook
the Warriors for first-place in the West by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreake
r with Golden State.
Just like he has all season, Kawhi Leonard led the way for San Antonio, collec
ting 31 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the 107-99 win.
With Kevin Durant out indefinitely with a left knee injury, the Spurs have qui
ckly erased what was once a four-game lead for Golden State by winning 11 of t
heir last 12 contests. The Warriors, meanwhile, have looked as vulnerable as t
hey've been in years, going just 2-5 since losing Durant.
Tim Duncan may be retired and Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili's best years are w
ell behind them, but the Spurs are still the Spurs, and they're once again sho
wing why they should never be discounted.
