Kobe表示：
「我還記得，當時Dirk是自由球員，我打了電話給他，
我說『Dirk，聽著，我知道你不會離開達拉斯，我懂的。
但我還是必須打這通電話，你覺得如何？』
當時Dirk回我『是的兄弟，你是對的。我是個像你一樣的男人，我們都不會離開。』」
