Modern NBA has been about super teams and multiple stars. Your championship
team was an exception. Do you feel like with Luka and pieces around him, this can
be a contender?
Cuban: It’s different, right? But yeah, of course. I mean, we see what we
need, right? When one of their guys is getting 17, 18 rebounds a night, it
kind of tells the story. And that’s one of the things we’ll try to fix.
But whole idea... the super teams haven’t really worked. And I think there’
s good reasons why. Because in this league, with so much space, a lot of
people — like we saw Spencer, we’ve seen JB — just be able to get to the
rim and score. Now we need guys to fill all the other roles. And so we’ll
work to fill those roles because that’s what a J-Kidd team is: Playing hard,
playing physical. Out-competing and playing harder than the other teams.
And not to make excuses, I think Timmy not being there hurt us. Because he
really was our one guy after Spencer, JB and Luka, who could attack close
outs and is our best shooter. So having him will help and obviosly we’ll
focus on some of the things that we were a little short on in this series.
