WNBA球星Brittney Griner已經被俄羅斯拘留超過4個月了，但沒有NBA球員或球隊為其發聲。
一開始是美國政府的要求，兩個聯盟高層與球隊一齊緘默，因為他們認為這樣有助於帶回Griner
但隨著美國各地開始遊行，目前還沒有NBA球星公開參與支持活動。

因為WNBA長期的低薪（最高薪為20萬美金），導致球星需要去俄羅斯、中國或是土耳其打工（WNBA的球季剛好與以上三者錯開）以賺取超過10倍於美國本土的薪水
而Griner為俄羅斯女籃效率的時候，被俄羅斯當局因為持有毒品被逮捕。
而Griner已經認罪，根據當地法律。可能面臨超過10年的有期徒刑。
