Last year Raptors traded their own '24 1st with 1-6 protections to Spurs for Poe

a) they didn't think they'd be anywhere near draft lottery this yr or next, so w
ere really trading two 2nds
b) they were sure the 2024 draft was so weak it didn't matter.
After trade Raptors have their own pick (6th), the Pacers pick (20th), the OKC f
rom Pacers (27th) and the 31st pick from Knicks. And it's not like anyone I've t
alked to is suggesting the draft suddenly got better, quite the opposite.
There are always great players in drafts. Jokic went 41st. Giannis & Kawhi both
went 15th. The Raptors won an NBA title without a single lottery pick on the ros
ter. But Toronto purposely trading out of '24 draft a yr ago to now having 4 pic
ks in the top 31 is quite the switch.
