Invictus是一個拉丁字，翻譯就是這首曲子的副標題The Unconquered
英國的詩人William Ernest Henley在1875年用這個字當標題，寫了關於Invictus的詩
這位詩人當初是得到結核性骨症
醫生建議已經失去一隻腳的他，再把另一隻腿也截去，控制病情而他不願意，
而這首詩就是在他躺在病榻上時寫的
Invictus(Unconquered)
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of Circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of Chance

有另一部電影也以這個字Invictus為其電影的標題
就是由摩根費里曼和麥特戴蒙演的打不倒的勇者
也是一部和勇氣、團結、凝聚相關的電影
希望這些資訊對於大家可以比較容易想像這首曲子的含義
或許Philip Sparke本人可能在寫曲子時不一定是照著詩來作曲
但是中心的思想還是來自這個字的根源
一種堅忍不拔以及不服輸的氣度
