Two first class passengers allegedly threw hot coffee at each other in a row
over seats on a commuter train to London - causing the service to be
cancelled.
The travellers caused chaos for fellow commuters after what was described as
a ‘punch-up’ between ‘two clowns’ on the 6.29am Southern train from
Littlehampton in West Sussex to London Bridge.
British Transport Police were called to Hove station in East Sussex following
reports of an assault at about 7.20am, and the train was held for almost 30
minutes but no arrests were made.

The train then became so far behind schedule that it terminated at Gatwick
Airport to avoid other services also being severely delayed, and passengers
boarded other packed trains instead.
Brad Dyson, a commuter from Brighton, tweeted: ‘Thanks to the two men who
threw coffee over each other, causing my train to be canned from Hove to
London Bridge.’

‘As a result of this incident, the train was 28 minutes late leaving Hove
station and to ensure the timetable was not disrupted by a very late train
arriving in London, the train was terminated at Gatwick Airport, where
passengers boarded alternative London Bridge services.’
A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘We were called to Hove station
at 7.19am on Monday to reports of an assault on board a train. Officers
attended and spoke to two men about the alleged incident. No arrests have

Meanwhile a tweet from the parody account @BadSouthernRail said: ‘We are
looking into making all passengers fight other passengers to win a seat, if
nothing else, for our entertainment.’
