Facebook owner Meta Platforms was fined $1.3 billion by European Union privacy
regulators for sending user information to the U.S., according to people familia
r with the matter, a record for the bloc.
The ruling, expected to be announced later Monday, raises pressure on the U.S go
vernment to finalize a deal that would allow Meta and thousands of multinational
companies to keep sending such information stateside.
