很多同學會問我,他的托福寫作寫得很無聊,該怎麼辦呢?其實,只要利用
換句話說(paraphrasing) 這個小技巧,你的文章就會增添許多美麗的畫面
喔!
大家都知道,在英美國家的世界裡,換句話說的技能中相當重要,這個能力
可以讓你不會死板的抄寫題目,也可以告訴老師及考試的考官你能夠用不同
的句子闡述你的想法。也因此,考試時,你當然應該使用上此能力,不是將
題目的句子反覆抄寫在作文裡;而是應該在寫作時盡量「使用不同的句型寫
出相同概念」。
關於換句話說的重要,各位可從觀察以下兩段文字中理解:
題目:
What changes do the internet bring to us?
沒有換句話說的版本:
In my opinion, the Internet helps humans to live a more convenient
life. In other words, when people use the internet, they can live
life more conveniently. For example, people can buy things in a
convenient way. When they buy items on the internet, it is faster.
People do not have to wait for so long. Thus, the internet gives
us convenience in time.
有換句話說的版本:
In my opinion, the Internet helps humans to live a more convenient
life. In other words, through online resources, people can enjoy a
living style that is faster and more direct. For example, nowadays
with a click on the mouse, friends can buy items for each other
immediately on Amazon. Purchases are enhanced to a whole new level
when individuals no longer have to wait for two weeks until their
holidays to shop; in short, they no longer are forced to walk in
real stores and buy within. From this perspective, the internet
indeed brings us more freedom in buying.
有觀察出兩個段落的差異了嗎?換句話說是個很強的武器吧!
那,平時該如何練習換句話說呢?公開課時,我實際帶同學練習過以下句
子,大家不妨一起來試試看:
For example, when students are able to adjust to different
teachers at school, they can fully express their opinions in
class.
換句話說的第一種方式,就是將原句裡的字句用心裡的字庫替代掉,舉例來
說,當我看到opinions 時,我就會想到ideas, their thoughts,而
students 則代換成pupils此字。
因此,這句話在反覆換字之後,很可能就變成了以下句子:
For instance, if pupils can suit to various kinds of educators in
school, they can convey complete ideas better compared to others.
這是最簡單的換句話說方法,之所以簡單,是因為同學可以在不知如何換字
時,直接查詢該單字的同義字,字典中的英英解釋也會給同學一些可使用的
替換字詞。總結以上,這方法是扎實但CP值相當高的練習。
然而,於以上的例子中,眼尖的讀者可能會觀察到,我除了使用原句的替換
字,我還在語句中使用了比較級。雖然原句並沒有比較級,但是將句子用比
較級的方式寫出來,可以凸顯「“are able to suit to various kinds of
educators” 此能力的重要」,採用這種方式將同樣概念再講一次,也可以
讓讀者於閱讀過程中更有畫面感。
當然,除了上面的比較語法可以使用以外,各位也可嘗試換不同的主詞寫
作,將轉折語連接詞等移位的寫法,或將原句加上被動語法等,也可達到相
當不錯的效果!
試觀察以下幾個原句改寫後的版本:
a) When pupils, for instance, are capable of getting their points
understood even under the supervision of different teachers, they
will own a better communication with their educators naturally.
b) If learners, say, can adjust their speaking style in different
classroom scenarios, people understand them better.
c) In order to help teachers understand what students are saying,
students should learn to adjust to different teachers. This way,
they can get the message through.
d) It is important for students to adjust themselves in order to
be heard in class.
e) Adjusting oneself can help an individual to learn better in
class because it allows him to get his point understood.
f) Teachers more than often give more value to students who are
good in adjusting themselves.
仔細比對,各位不難發現,c, d, f 句子其實在筆者語調已有更動。因此,
句子與原句不完全相同。然而,即便句子實際強調的地方不同,他們仍然指
向同一個「核心概念」:
If a student is good in adjusting himself, he can express his
opinions in class better.
講到這裡,我可以帶到最後一種換句話說的方式,這種方式稍微進階一點,
也就是將原句套上一個更進階的畫面,在換句話說時同時延伸句子所陳述的
關鍵核心。
以下是使用這種方式延伸後的換句話說:
原句:For example, when students are able to adjust to different
teachers at school, they can fully express their opinions in class.
改編句:For example, when students can adjust their way of
learning by looking at teachers’ communication style, they can
express their questions in a more favorable manner, which will
allow teachers to understand their problem more.
實際上,寫作時,我們也是用類似的方式,以同一個句子做基底延伸劇情,
因此,最後此句變成一個真實的例子後,呈現出來的方式會漲成以下:
Imagine if a student can adjust to different communication styles
of teachers at school. He will be able to adjust himself by
looking at how his teachers prefer to communicate, which will
allow him to express his questions in a more favorable and perhaps
more coherent manner. My sister, for example, understood that her
math teacher loved people to ask questions immediately when
students does not understand. Thus, she will always follow the
teacher’s expectation to raise her hand in class whenever there
is questions. On the other hand, she also knows that her English
teacher does not like people to be interrupted during lectures, so
for a similar problem, she will only consult the teacher after the
class ends. By paying close attention to teachers’ preferences
and adjusting herself accordingly, my sister successfully earns
the affection and the attention from her teachers. This eventually
led to success in her school work.
現在,各位是否知道換句話說的重要了呢?
現在,如果你再讀一次文章一開始我所帶到的題目「有換句話說」和「沒換
句話說」的版本,你會發現,此段落我實運用了許多不同種的方式將文章脈
絡換個句型講出來,因此讀來比原文有意思許多。
這些方法包含換字、換句型、運用比較關係、以人當主詞寫句子、以「事
件」或「抽象的物的概念」當主詞寫句子將句型換句話說,直接使用比喻調
動名詞,延伸解釋句子裡的關鍵字但講述相同概念等,甚至是加入態度字
詞。無論是哪一種方法,只要將原理內化再加以練習、整合,即可讓一篇原
本無趣的段落,變成一篇生動且充滿說服力的文章。

live a more convenient life. In other words, when people use the
internet, they can live life more conveniently. For example,
people can buy things in a convenient way. When they buy items on
the internet, it is faster. People do not have to wait for so

有換句話說的版本:In my opinion, the Internet helps humans to live
a more convenient life. In other words, through online resources,
people can enjoy a living style that is faster and more direct.
