[突破中翻英 高中英文也能得托福高分]
我的托福作文只有自己懂嗎?! 許多同學難過寫作低分,但練習時卻沒有發現盲點!
今天來分析,中翻英寫作習慣的常見問題「抽象概念過多」,也要教你如何避免錯誤。
請先以讀者/考官的角度理解,極度抽象文所造成的困擾,先不急著寫。以同學作業為例
,題目是Should private schools receive financial support?
X 大概念過多: 下文每個問號都點出了問題,讀讀看。
First, providing financial support to private schools reduces the taxpayers'
burden. (此為主要論點) An increase in budgetary plans (?) leads to an
increase in taxation(?). Closure of all private schools (?) means that
taxpayers' will have to fully cater for all students' fees regardless of
their social status (?).
考官讀起來一定困惑closure of all private schools,和social status這些狀況和新
概念從何而來 (天外飛來?) 當你解釋時提出過多大概念,卻缺乏清楚具體的說明,加上
用非母語寫出來,又讓不同文化背景的考官讀,讀起就是令人滿頭黑人問號。
O 改善方式: 每段只提「一個」大概念,其餘內容為舉例具體說明。
First, paying to support private schools saves the government’s budget. [點出
大概念,之後每句解釋都要扣緊它並「比它具體」] For example, “the Taiwanese
government provided 10%” of all private schools’ funding. [用事件、數字具體
解釋] When the schools received the aid, they also agreed to contribute to
local communities by “opening their auditorium to host community events”.
→ 抽象概念少,具體說明多能確認自己的意思有效傳達,用高中英文就獲得高分
