Lakers team to play for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Asia Championship in
China next month.
That’s the good news. The bad news is it has an expiry date: Sept. 28.

In short order, Clarkson, if signed up by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas
to play for the Philippines, can play for Gilas in three of the national team
’s first three games which, based on the schedule, will be the easiest three
games of the series for the Nationals. These will be against Palestine on
Sept. 23, Hong Kong on Sept. 24 and Kuwait on Sept. 25.
The next day, Sept. 26, is a rest day. On Sept. 27, the Philippines, assuming
it advances, will play the first game of the second phase on this date.
Assuming Clarkson is part of Gilas, it is very likely he won’t be able to
play in the second phase as most probably he will be flying to Los Angeles
already at this time to be on time for the start of the Lakers’ training
camp which is mandatory for all LA players.
Which puts Gilas in a tricky situation: Will the team still sign up Clarkson
knowing he will be able to play only three games and against three weak teams
at that?
John Black, vice-president for public relations of the Lakers, told The
Bulletin yesterday that the 23-year-old Clarkson is free to play for Gilas in
the 2015 Asian championships in Changsha.
“Per the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the Player’s
Association, as long as national team play does not interfere with team
requirements and there are no injury issues, it is up to the players whether
or not to play. Our players must be in Los Angeles on September 28, so as
long as he would be back by then, we would have no objection to Jordan
playing in the event up until that date,” said Black in an email.
The Lakers have a busy calendar beginning Sept. 28 as there are numerous
mandatory events on tap, including their training camp in Hawaii, where two
pre-season games are going to be played against the Utah Jazz on Oct. 4 and 6.
Six more pre-season matches have been set and these are against the Toronto
Raptors on Oct. 8 in Ontario, California; Maccabi Haifa (Israel) on Oct. 11
at the Staples Center; Sacramento Kings on Oct. 13 at the MGM Grand in Las
Vegas; NBA defending champion Golden State on Oct. 17 in San Diego; Portland
TrailBlazers on Oct. 19 at the Staples Center; and Golden State again on Oct.
22 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The NBA season starts Oct. 28.

湖人隊首次同意克拉克森征戰亞錦賽
北京時間9月2日，據臺灣媒體報導，NBA湖人隊首次同意後衛喬丹-克拉克森代表菲律賓男
籃征戰2015年長沙男籃亞錦賽，但前提是他必須在9月28日前返美參加球隊的訓練。據悉
，菲律賓籃協將就此條件再與湖人隊進行協商。
湖人新星喬丹-克拉克森是美菲混血，上賽季他在湖人隊場均能夠砍下11.9分3.5助攻3.2
籃板，作為一位二年級球員，他的表現值得稱讚。據菲律賓籃協指出，克拉克森早在12歲
的時候就取得了菲律賓的護照，因此希望不需要通過歸化就可以將其招入隊中來。
目前，克拉克森能否代表菲律賓男籃出戰一事還卡在NBA與FIBA國際籃協的審核，不過湖
人隊目前已經同意克拉克森為菲律賓出戰亞錦賽。湖人隊發言人布萊克在接受採訪時表示
：“根據NBA與球員工會的協議，只要國家隊的比賽不影響球隊要求，且不會造成球員受
傷，就可取決於球員自己的決定。我們的球員必須在9月28日回到洛杉磯，因此只要他那
時候回來，我們將不會反對克拉克森參加比賽。”
2015年長沙男籃亞錦賽將於9月23日拉開戰幕，若克拉克森必須在28日返美，那麼他只能
夠打小組賽的前三場，這對菲律賓來說意義並不大。對此，菲律賓記者透露，菲律賓籃協
今日已經飛往美國，將於湖人就此條件進行協商，希望能夠延後克拉克森的歸隊時間。
