According to a report, the Dodgers and two-time NL Cy Young Award winner
Clayton Kershaw have reached an agreement on a contract extension that will
make the southpaw the highest paid pitcher of all time.
道奇與Kershaw延長合約,史上最高薪投手誕生
If those terms are correct, Kershaw’s deal surpasses the seven-year, $180
million extension Justin Verlander signed with the Tigers last season that
previously represented the biggest contract given to a pitcher. And Kershaw
becomes the highest paid player of all-time in terms of average annual value.
上季V壯年的合約望塵莫及
It’s hard to argue he doesn’t deserve it: Kershaw has led the NL in ERA for
three straight seasons and has thrown more than 200 innings in each of the
last four years. Plus, he’ll only be 26 on Opening Day — well younger than
most players who hit free agency.

所以他值得~
But for as good as Kershaw is, long-term megadeals for starting pitchers
rarely turn out to be smart investments. Pitchers bring substantial risk of
injury and ineffectiveness.
給SP長約未必是好的決定,畢竟投手有許多受傷及化身發球機的風險
Of the four $100-million-plus deals to pitchers that have expired and can be
assessed in retrospect, none looks great. Two — those given to Johan Santana
and Kevin Brown — brought some great seasons and some bad ones. The others,
which went to Barry Zito and Mike Hampton, are widely considered disasters.
