Dzeko played 84 minutes of Roma's 1-1 draw at Inter Milan last night and
Roma sporting director Monchi hinted that it could be his last appearance
for the club.
Emerson was an unused substitute and when asked if both players were
joining Chelsea, Monchi replied: "Whatever will be will be. I work every
day to have players suitable to replace our players, my job is always to
strengthen my club. If Dzeko leaves Roma, we'll buy another player."
Sources in Italy suggest Emerson will travel to London today or tomorrow
in order to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms. The 23-year-old
will cost in the region of ￡20m and provide competition for Marcos Alonso
in the squad.
Batshuayi, who impressed in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Brighton on Saturday,
is unlikely to join Roma as a replacement for Dzeko. The prospect of Roma
signing Batshuayi on loan has been included as part of the negotiations
over Dzeko.
Chelsea have made inquiries for a number of frontmen this month, including
Peter Crouch and Andy Carroll, both of which were rejected by Stoke and
West Ham respectively.
They have also been linked with Burnley's Ashley Barnes and West Ham's
Marko Arnautovic, but neither club are interested in selling or loaning
their assets.
