Ming Hua Yuan (明華園) rarely comes to Neipu, and tonight they performed
"Legend of White Snake." Surprisingly, by half past five in the evening, there
were already a sea of people, and the seats in the middle-front area were all
taken, so we had to sit in the left-front area. The performance started at
seven in the evening, but I left shortly after it began because the sound was
extremely loud, and I didn't want to damage my hearing. Moreover, the crane
next to the stage was constantly emitting dust, which smelled terrible. My
family and grandmother stayed to watch the entire performance.
The highlight of the night was Sun Tsui-feng (孫翠鳳) and Chen Ling (晨翎)
hanging on wires, with four fire trucks simulating the flood of Jinshan,
spraying water towards the audience. Official staff at booths on both sides
handed out light raincoats, so there was no need to worry about getting wet.
My grandmother had been looking forward to today's performance for a long
time, fulfilling one of her wishes. At the beginning of the year, my
grandfather passed away, leaving her alone. While she is still able to move
around, making her happy is the best thing we can do.
