HODGES 美國最高法院法官承認同性戀婚姻的理由，除了獨立宣言說的 "自由權"， 更重要的是法官以聖經教導的道德真理， 說明婚姻是民主社會中，保護人民幸福平安的制度。 「 Fourth and finally, this Court’s cases and the Nation’s traditions make clear that marriage is a keystone of our social order. Alexis de Tocqueville recognized this truth on his travels through the United States almost two centuries ago: 最後，法院的先例和國家的傳統清楚地表明婚姻是我們社會秩序的基石。 亞歷克西斯托克維爾在兩世紀前的美國旅途上確認這一事實： “There is certainly no country in the world where the tie of marriage is so much respected as in America . . .
