模糊記得以前學syntax時曾經有個用來測試某片語是complement還是adjunct的方法但
一時記不起，剛才翻閲一本文法書，其中再度提到這個測試法，即用do so這個代表
整個動詞及其補語的anophora。
I painted the house red last year, and he did so two years ago. [1]
*I painted the house red last year, and he did so blue two years ago. [2]
[1] 合法，其中did so代表painted the house red，這證明red是complement。
[2] 不合法，因為did so已經包含red，後面不能再接另一個補語blue。
這個比較同時也告訴你last year、two years ago只是adjunct，所以不納入did so。
用這個方法，我覺得I woke up hungry的hungry也同樣是complement，不僅是adjunct。
同一本文法書並且提到另一個辨別complement和adjunct的原則：去掉complement，
句子會變不合文法ungrammatical或在意思上產生"unsystematic change in meaning"
非系統性的變化，比如：
She ran the business. 去掉 the business 後成 She ran. 句子雖然合法但已經發生
非系統性的意思變化，兩個ran意思不再一樣。
我個人覺得這個「非系統變化」的原則，用在painted the house red和woke up hungry
比較難以判別到底是不是非系統變化，因為油漆和醒來的動詞意思大致沒變。不過，用前
述的did so來判斷好像就明朗許多。
