我也想到之前我曾思考過的一個問題
有在看MLB的板友應該都知道變速球的英文是change-up
可是就字面上的意思來說
up是往上的意思
但是由於地心引力
幾乎沒有一種變化球會造成往上的效果
所以up指的不會是方向
那如果用整個詞去查字意
卻得到"車速加快"的解答

但變速球的球速相較於直球
速度明顯較慢
所以"變速球"應該也不會是加速的意思
最後
我自己做出猜想
由於台灣棒球維基館上的解釋是
"變速球顧名思義，就是看起來不管是出手或是投法都像是快速球
，但是球速變慢許多，來擾亂打者的節奏。"

而change-up有徹底改變的意思
(比方說"The Change-Up"這部電影 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1488555/ )
所以英文的變速球命名為Change-Up
應該就是指
與直球投球姿勢同樣的出手動作，但球的飛行軌跡卻"徹底改變"(往下掉)
不知我這樣的解讀對不對?
